Sunshine Coast Tracks and Trails Project

EC3 Global partnered with RPS (formerly Conics) to develop a template for a promotional tool to encourage greater use of tracks and trails on the Sunshine Coast. The process involved:

• An examination of the existing Tracks and Trails network on the Sunshine Coast;
• A coordinated approach to the development, interpretation and classification of the network; and
• Presentation of this network to the visitor as an accessible element of their experience.

The tracks and trails audit, classification system and template is the first of this kind to be completed in Queensland and is currently being rolled out by EC3 Global for the rest of South East Queensland.

Gold Coast Dive Attraction; Scoping Study and Operational Study

Gold Coast TourismIn March 2010, EC3 Global and RPS were appointed by Gold Coast Tourism to undertake a scoping study into the opportunity to grow dive tourism on the Gold Coast. EC3 Global, in partnership with a team of environmental planners, engineers and economic analysts, is currently undertaking a study to identify the tourism and recreational opportunities of a dive attraction on the Gold Coast including an assessment of potential artificial structures and sites to be used and an analysis of visitor demand, infrastructure requirements and commercial opportunities.  A Business and Management Plan and project implementation plan is being developed to outline the key actions, funding and stakeholders required to implement the study’s findings.

Drive Tourism Program
Tourism Queensland, 2004-09

tourism queenslandThe Drive Tourism Program for Queensland is the largest program of its kind ever completed in Australia. EC3 Global was the project manager of the Drive Tourism Program and managed the delivery of the following outcomes:

• Local, Regional and State Product and Experience Audits
• New Interpretation Panels in accredited Visitor Information Centres
• Interpretation Shelters at key Queensland border crossing sites
• Marketing collateral (including brochures, maps, fact sheets, websites)
• An advertising and PR program for 9 strategic routes
• Road signage, including route gateway signage at key intersections
• Strategic Plans for all 9 corridors and developing new committee structures and Business Plans for the Route Steering Committees.

Dig the Tropic
Capricorn Tourism, 2007-10

Capricorn TourismCapricorn Tourism secured a federal funding grant for the ‘Dig the Tropic; Outback to the Reef’ project, which aims to position the region as a world leader in Geo-tourism. EC3 Global project managed the delivery of the following initiatives:

• Regional Product and experience audits including an assessment of geo-tourism attractions and experiences
• Development of marketing collateral for Dig the Tropic including fact sheets, maps and brochures
• Development of interpretive signage at key points of geo-tourism interest
• Regional photo shoot for interpretation of geo-tourism themes
• Development and implementation of an advertising and PR campaign for Dig the Tropic

Tourism Queensland Environmental Indicators and Climate Change Initiative
Tourism Queensland, 2008/09

EC3 Global worked with Tourism Queensland to identify a concise set of state-wide indicators to measure the environmental impact of tourism in Queensland. The project involved developing a methodology for measuring and reporting on the environmental impact of tourism in Queensland on an annual basis using the identified indicators. In addition, EC3 Global developed a suite of factsheets and website material to assist the industry and Local Government to respond to the challenges of climate change. A comprehensive overview of the key elements of the range of benchmarking and certification programs available to Queensland operator’s was also undertaken, and the programs ranked by the criteria considered most important by operators.

Sunshine Coast Airport Economic Impact Assessment
Sunshine Coast Regional Council, 2008

The Sunshine Coast Airport Economic Impact Assessment studied the current economic impacts associated with Sunshine Coast Airport activity, as well as the economic impact of the construction of the new runway and new terminal (as detailed in the Master Plan 2020). In addition, EC3 Global also undertook an assessment of the value to the community, both domestic and business, of the ability to connect to Southern ports direct from the Sunshine Coast.

Successful Tourism in Heritage Places 
Australian Heritage Commission, 2001

Successful Tourism in Heritage Places involved the development of a set of practical industry guidelines and standards that promote tourism development and are in keeping with the principles and heritage conservation imperatives of the Burra Charter, the Australian Natural Heritage Charter and the Draft Indigenous Cultural Heritage protection guidelines. The project involved Australia wide industry consultation to identify and understand the needs and expectations of key stakeholders and ensure the project outcomes provide guidelines that can be readily accepted as promoting world best practice heritage principals. In completing the project, EC3 Global also used various domestic and international case studies to illustrate the application of the principles.

V8 Supercars Series Feasibility Study
Hyder Consulting, 2006

The purpose of the V8 Supercars Series Feasibility study was to conduct an Economic Impact Analysis of the proposed multi-function events precinct in Townsville, North Queensland.  EC3 Global reviewed and tested the previous reports, prepared on the economic impact assessment of the proposed events, (including accommodation, drive market and visitor number projections) and conducted an assessment and provision of advice relating to the extent of economic impact generated. In providing advice on the economic impact of a V8 event in Townsville, EC3 Global assessed visitor numbers, organiser and visitor spend, household impact, value-added impact and employment impact.

Changqing Nature Reserve, China
The Department of Forestry, Shaanxi Province, China, 2002/04

EC3 Global undertook a feasibility study on wildlife tourism development in Changqing Nature Reserve. The aim of the project was to encourage the development of sustainable wildlife tourism in the Qinling Mountain Reserve Group by establishing a demonstration site for wildlife tourism in Changqing Nature Reserve. The project concentrated on poverty alleviation and ensuring the maximum number of benefits were delivered to the local communities. The project was also aimed at securing funding from high value tourism activity to conserve the unique biodiversity of the region.
