Sustainable Regions Tourism Queensland, 2009-2011
EC3 Global is working with Tourism Queensland on the Sustainable Regions program across seven destinations in Queensland. The objective of the program is to assist Queensland’s tourism regions to become more sustainable tourism destinations. The project is assessing the triple-bottom-line sustainability of individual regions against a set of environmental, economic and social indicators identified by Tourism Queensland. These indicators are being assessed in the context of management and commitment at a Council, commercial and household level. The key steps in the Sustainable Regions program include:
i. Conduct a regional audit and sustainability Health Check on the region which assesses current initiatives, management and reporting of triple bottom line sustainability outcomes; ii. Conduct cluster workshops to identify and discuss opportunities to improve efficiency within their business and the region as a whole an cost out these initiatives; and iii. Work with the Local Government and Regional Tourism Organisation to prepare a community sustainability action plan for the region with priority, short and long term actions to be implemented over a 3 year period.
Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plans Queensland Regions 2007-2009
Regional Tourism Investment and Infrastructure Plans (RTIIPs), also known as Tourism Opportunity Plans (TOPs) are designed to enable a tourism region to identify gaps and catalyst projects that will assist their destination to reach its potential in sustainable tourism development. EC3 Global Consulting has completed RTIIP’s for the Sunshine Coast, the Gold Coast and South East Queensland Country and the Central Queensland RTIIP. The key outcomes of an RTIIP include:
• A 10-year plan for the region including prioritised public infrastructure projects and investment opportunities, as well as ongoing product development opportunities; • An implementation plan for the establishment of an action group and ongoing implementation and monitoring of the process; and • A high level of stakeholder consultation both within and outside the region to achieve industry and government support and buy-in into the planning process.
Green TEA Huon Valley Kingborough Tourism Association, 2008-10
The Green Tourism Environmental Audit (TEA) program was initiated by the Huon Valley Kingborough Tourism Association (HVKTA) through a Federal Government grant to deliver an environmental sustainability program for businesses throughout the region. EC3 Global provided the Environmental Best Practice components of the project, including training local trainers / mentors to guide operators through the Earthcheck Assessed online health check and benchmarking program; delivering a sustainability portal with the latest research and advice, and developing a comprehensive workbook that provides a step by step guide for businesses to implement measures to make their business practices more sustainable.
Great Ocean Road – Sustainable Tourism Framework Geelong Otway Tourism, 2008/09
In 2008 Geelong Otway Tourism and the regional partners along the Great Ocean Road initiated ‘The Road to Sustainability’. The aim of this project is to create an overarching framework of sustainability for tourism along the Great Ocean Road and to educate operators about how they can become more sustainable. EC3 Global Consulting, with its specialist knowledge in sustainability and the challenges facing the future of tourism in the region, was commissioned to project manage the development and implementation of key elements of this project. This included the facilitation of a Vision Workshop, establishment of a Tourism Green Team, industry workshops and consultation, development of a sustainability Code of Conduct for Great Ocean Road operators, preparation of case studies and the development of web-based education material for an industry Sustainability Portal.
Australia’s Coastal Wilderness – National Landscape Tourism Master Plan Australia’s Coastal Wilderness Steering Committee, 2009
The National Landscapes Program aims to identify, conserve and promote landscapes that offer distinctive Australian natural and cultural experiences. In June 2008, the Australia’s Coastal Wilderness (ACW) region was announced as one of eight National Landscapes in Australia. EC3 Global worked with the Australia’s Coastal Wilderness Steering Committee to develop a Tourism Master Plan for this National Landscapes region. The Tourism Master Plan identifies iconic world-class experiences matching the Experience Seeker target market and determines the priority short and medium term projects that are required for the further development of those experiences. Extensive consultation with key stakeholders was undertaken to develop a plan that is relevant, acceptable and practical and that delivers on the criteria set out for the region under the National Landscapes Program.
Great Barrier Reef Tourism Experiences Audit Tourism Queensland, 2009
The Great Barrier Reef has been nominated as one of Australia’s National Landscapes and commissioned EC3 Global to facilitate and deliver an ‘Experiences Audit’ of the Reef - the first step in achieving recognition as a National Landscape. Realising the current threat of Climate Change on the Great Barrier Reef, the Experience Audit aims to identify and agree upon the competitive strengths of the Great Barrier Reef, identify gaps in the product based on the latest research on consumer needs and identify a number of ‘hero experiences’ that will help to clearly position the Great Barrier Reef as one of the natural wonders of the world – while not exacerbating its existing fragility.
Cross Border Development of Outback Tourism Desert Knowledge Australia, 2006
This project, funded under the Australian Government’s ATDP funding scheme, provided the foundation and direction to guide the future development and co-ordination of cross-border tourism across Outback Australia. Prior to developing the final strategy EC3 Global completed an Industry Issues Paper, based on an extensive review of existing research, strategies and best practice case studies. The final Strategy – Out Outback: Partnerships and Pathways to Success in Tourism- was completed following 23 community workshops and a further 50 individual interviews. The final strategy included an action plan for Outback Tourism and an Implementation Plan of practical steps to take the project forward.
Sapphire Coast Heritage Tourism Strategy Sapphire Coast Tourism, NSW 2010
Following the successful development of the Australia’s Coastal Wilderness Tourism Master Plan, EC3 Global was appointed to develop the Sapphire Coast Heritage Tourism Strategy. The Sapphire Coast Region is a key part of the Australia’s Coastal Wilderness National Landscape and EC3 Global is working with Sapphire Coast Tourism to identify key cultural and heritage stories, products and experiences for development in the region. The project resulted in a Heritage Tourism Strategy that identifies a prioritised list of actions, timeframes and responsibilities for the effective delivery, development, marketing and ongoing management of key heritage tourism experiences in the region.
Lake Coolmunda Tourism Master Plan Goondiwindi Regional Council, 2010
EC3 Global worked in partnership with RPS and Tourism Potential to deliver a Tourism Master Plan for Lake Coolmunda for Goondiwindi Regional Council. The aim of the Master Plan was to achieve strategic, effective and appropriate development and management of resources on the site of the lake. The process involved a community survey, site inspection, community visioning workshop, and an Options Paper. The project concluded with presentation of the preferred business model and business plan for Lake Coolmunda.
